FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the Literature Program effective for all students?

All middle schoolers benefit from improving their reading skills in great books and getting in the habit of reading books for pleasure. During class, the teacher provides plenty of support and guidance for all students, whether they are strong readers or struggling readers, outgoing or shy. The program is a fun, meaningful experience for students.

What happens during the live online classes?

Live online classes take place once per week and last for an hour. Each class is led by a trained, enthusiastic teacher. Students can see, hear, and interact with each other and the teacher in real time. Every class includes comprehension-building discussions about the program books. Class is engaging, positive, and productive – it will be the highlight of your child’s week!

What kind of internet access do I need to participate in the program?

A broadband internet connection with a common provider will work fine. (Prior to the start of live online classes, you’ll receive an email with setup and login instructions and a link to join the class.)

What kind of computer or equipment do I need for the live online classes?

To participate in live online classes, you will need access to a computer (Mac or PC) or tablet (Apple or Android) with working web camera, speakers, and microphone. We do not currently support Kindle or Chromebook. While it is possible to access class on an Apple or Android mobile phone, we recommend using a device with a larger screen for the best class experience.

Is there any homework in this program?

Between weekly classes, your middle schooler will complete an independent reading assignment. Each assignment can be completed in two days if a student reads for 20-30 minutes per day. This amount of reading can easily fit into your family’s busy schedule.

Is it possible to make up missed classes?

Yes, in the event of a scheduling conflict, you’ll have the option to take a make-up class. You can contact customer support to schedule a live online make-up class at another time or with another teacher.

What is the class size?

To ensure that all students have a great experience, we cap enrollment at a maximum of 20 students. Students get personal attention from the teacher and have a chance to actively participate in class discussions.
